ACM Identifiers
The identifier is of the form NUMBER.NUMBER or just NUMBER. Goto the ACM Portal and search the "ACM Digital Library" for issues of the journal in question. Follow links till you get to a page dedicated to the article you are interested in. For some articles, you will find a "DOI Bookmark" towards the bottom of the page. The last part of the displayed URL is your identifier of the form NUMBER.NUMBER. For older articles, the DOI bookmark is not present. In those cases, look at the URL. The string between "id=" and the next & will be of the form NUMBER or NUMBER.NUMBER. This is your identifier.
For example, this article has a DOI bookmark and corresponds to the ToC eprint line
eprint = {stoc:1007352.1007363}.This article does not have a DOI bookmark and corresponds to the ToC eprint line
eprint = {stoc:804414}
